How about the use of AP and/or NewsCorp material on blogs or websites or in e-zines and e-letters that are pure nonprofits -- are absent any advertising that covers any part of costs and/or that receive no contributions to help cover costs?

And where DOES the fair use of material under Title 17 U.S.C. Section 107 fit within Curley's and Murdoch's veiled (or is that unveiled?) threats? Perhaps the AP should be more concerned about what the Tribune Corporation has on its calendar -- a plan to utilize as little content from the Associated Press as practical during the week of Nov. 8 to see if its breaking ties with the AP next year is sensible and practicle. (It seems from here that it ain't, that is more in the order of suicidal continuation of cost-cutting measures that are helping drive away subscribers -- and, therefore, advertisers -- even faster than competition from other news sources and the lousy economy are doing.)

So -- where might the big boys leave little me? http://www.mytown.ca/green-dog/
