Having done my share of writing from technical manuals to my own blog, I can tell you that writers are too close to their own material to properly proof it an proofread it. It takes a person with fresh eyes to spot the errors. Unfortunately, budgets cuts have led to having no proofreaders, shrinking deadlines and more responsibilities for those left to do the work. Additionally, new media from blogs to websites have to be constantly fed. In years past journalists just wrote for print, now their stories have be adapted to a variety of media; editing and proofreading are sacrificed just to get things in on time.
