WORKSHOPS
NewsLab's executive director, Deborah Potter,
conducts journalism workshops in a variety of settings. We offer
newsroom workshops on writing, storytelling, ethical decision-making,
and other topics. Workshops range from an hour or two to half-day,
full-day or multiple day sessions. We often provide training at
state, regional and national journalism conferences, and we can
work directly with your newsroom to develop specialized training.
Here's the current schedule. Among other issues,
we have recently led workshops on:
- Telling the non-visual story
- Writing to pictures
- Better broadcast writing and storytelling
- Disaster preparation
- Coaching in the newsroom
- Standups and live shots
- Reporting under pressure (crisis coverage)
- Journalism ethics
- Time management
- Assignment desk management
We are incorporated as an independent non-profit, and provide
training for a reasonable fee.
